Tis the Season for Layering

Holiday gifts brought lots of warm sweaters and chic blouses.  You went to put on your favorite and realized you have nothing to wear underneath it.  Layering is important, especially this time of year.  Here are some of our favorite Cami’s perfect for a little extra warmth.

Pick these up for a Steal!
Gap’s Essential Featherweight Cotton Cami comes in Black, Grey, and White.  Currently on sale for $10 a piece.  Like a little lace?  This style from Old Navy, on sale for only $5, is a cotton and spandex blend available in ten different colors.  One of these will be sure to highlight your new cardigan.

Women: Essential featherweight cami - black Women: Women's Lace Jersey-Knit Camis - Blue Tropic

At Banana Republic we found a couple of seamless options.  Whether you like lace or a more classic styling, both of these Cami’s come in many colors and are still affordable ranging from $20 to $30.  Adjustable straps assure a great fit.

Women: Lace seamless camisole - Berry bliss Women: Seamless stretch camisole - Antique cream

Splurge a little!
We found some fun tanks at Shopbop.com.  This Splendid style with rhinestones around the collar add a little rocker attitude.  Though we don’t recommend the ripped denim look in the office.  Or pick up a Silk and Satin Cami from Theory.  It will make you forget your wearing a slightly itchy wool sweater.  Lastly, we love to pop a print under a cardigan or blazer.  This Ikat style from L.A.M.B. is right on trend.

Endless Last Minute Gift Ideas

Maybe you enjoy the thrill of waiting until the last possible moment to buy gifts.

Maybe you forgot someone on our list or have not been able to get away from work long enough to shop.

Maybe you have been snowed in on all of your shopping days.

Whatever your reason, we have Workchic solutions to your last minute gift giving dilemma.  All of these gifts will be scheduled to arrive by Christmas.  But hurry, you need to order today!  Endless.com has free overnight shipping 365 days a year.  Now is the time to take advantage.  Order by 5:15pm PST this afternoon to receive by Dec. 24th.

So far this winter season there are few people that can’t use winter boots.  Barbo Women’s Gallia Boot have rubber soles and a slight platform.  Try this updated style from EMU Australia with tie strap and wool lining.  They come in many colors.  For the women that wants to keep her feet warm and dry but still wants a stream lined look, pick up these Rockport Boots.

Since Workchic.com does not advocate winter boots in the office; here are some chic flats that she can pack in her handbag to wear during the day.  The first pair in a dark brown giraffe print are under $50.  Additional colors are available at varying prices from Nine West.  A classic pointed toe makes this next styles perfect for business casual outfits.  The ruffle details at the toe make it stand out from the crowd.  If her office is casual or denim friendly try something with moccasin details like the mustard flat we recommended below.

Shoes may be a girl’s best friend, but she still can’t live without her handbag.  These styles are perfect for a women on the go.  This Kathy Van Zeeland Croc embossed shopper has sophisticated hardware detailing in a slouchy shape.  Tone down the hardware and up the impact with this Jessica Simpson Hobo in a gorgeous rusty apricot shade.  Can’t decide?  A wallet and a gift card can also go a long way.  We love this Lodis Veloce style in a deep ocean blue.

Dressed to Impress-Week 8

 mallory-2.jpg

It has been two months that our friend Mallory got her new job.  She went on a shopping spree a few weeks back to find the basics that would help her transition from college girl to sophisticated working girl.  Here are her latest thoughts:

“Everyone is in their early 20’s and just starting off where I work. We all make the same salary and most of us just recently graduated from college. Lately there have been many lunch conversations on what we can suggest to make each other look better.  We are all on a tight budget these days.  However there is the one girl at work who somehow has it all together, at least in the fashion sense anyway, and looks great everyday. We look at her outfits and think -why can’t I put together something really great like she does? All of this talk brought us to one conclusion-  We need to help each other through this transition from college student to professional . We discussed how we are actually planning on going out one day together to go shopping. We are all a bit lazy in our dress habits- we remember how easy it was to dress in our college sweatshirts and somehow that was just acceptable attire.  We just can’t seem to get out of that funk. Even though I have my own wardrobe problems and so do the other girls, it is actually easier to critique each other based on each person’s body type or silhouette.  We discussed a challenge to come up with ideas to do a minor makeover on  each other ranging from hair to clothing.  We want to pull ourselves out of our own comfort zone that made us so secure in college . Going out on a shopping spree or spending a night on the internet shopping with your girlfriends could definitely be rewarding for everyone. It will help bring up ideas that you would have thought for yourself!”

Stylista- Season Finale

Tonight was the season finale of our guilty pleasure show-Stylista.  The first challenge was to interview Roberta Myers-the editor-in-chief of Elle Magazine.  That meant goodbye to Megan!

That left Johanna and DyShaun as the last two standing.  Their final challenge for the coveted title as Junior Editor was to design a cover page with Eve.  They also received some help with some of the former contestants.  Megan was selected to come back and help Johanna.  But she suddenly had a meltdown and wanted to go home.  Johanna persuaded her to stay and Megan said she would stay since she was a great friend.   I have also thought that DyShaun had a great sense of fashion but his immaturity stood in the way.  Johanna is such a perfectionist that it sometimes worked against her.    Who ultimately prevailed and won the competition?

Congrats Johanna on a job well done!  You were the right fit!  Word of advice-you don’t need a friend like Megan!

Workchic Gifts for the Boss You Just Can’t Please

This week we posted some workchic gift ideas for your favorite boss.  What if you are checking your gift list and checking it twice and your boss’s name just doesn’t seem to be on it? For those of you who know what I am talking about..the obnoxious boss that no matter what you do or say- you just can’t seem to please.  The one that acts so nasty so no one will notice how stupid they really are.  The one that argues with everything you say just to boost their own ego. The one that publicly berates you for the slightest mistake since they are fearful of being found out what a failure they are themselves.  Yes that’s the one.

Giving a gift to this type of boss especially in these hard economic times is the furthest thing from your mind.   How do you come up with a gift that speaks “I really don’t want to give this to you but I am trying to be the better person in this situation?”  If you feel that you have to give something  the first tip is to avoid giving personal gifts such as cologne, jewelry, clothes and even alcohol.  Even though you think alcohol might alleviate the micromanaging for just one minute because they are drunk or hungover-they will be back on track in a day or two.  Also keep a spending limit in mind.  Keep it simple.

Here are some workchic suggestions from amazon.com.  Why not try a digital picture frame?  Then they can stare at themselves all day long and distract themselves from bothering you.   A magazine subscription is safe and they might learn a thing or two about management in the magazine.  A DVD is safe.  You can say it is your favorite movie but the title sometimes says  it all.

For the bosses that are tied to their laptops. Try the Laptop Desk Mat.  How about an engraved pen set to make them feel even more important? Be wary on purchasing desk accessories for those that have bosses with obsessive compulsive issues about their desk.  A charger station might be appropriate for those bosses that feel everyone is trying to get in touch with them whether via blackberry or phone when no one really is.  How about a business card holder for those business cards which you watch people throw away after your boss gives it to them?  Last but not least how about a leather passport holder which will hopefully remind them not to leave their passport in their desk when traveling to a foreign destination.

Ok you did your good deed and you didn’t break your budget.  Now you can cross that boss off your gift list until next year!

Happy Holidays from Workchic.com!

Workchic Momma

You’ve got it together, you always look chic and professional at the office.  What about Mom?  She started her career in a different era.  Her hay-day included shoulder pads and matching crayola colored pumps.  While she probably understands this is no longer appropriate, she might still be able to use a little Workchic style advice.  Improve her work wardrobe this season with gifts from Workchic.com.

How about one luxurious Cashmere sweater for one sweater (insert your “favorite” here) in the trash.  This boat neck style is from Banana Republic and is also available in Petite and Tall sizes.  It may feel a little pricey at $160, but remember seeing that Christmas sweater in the garbage will be a gift to you too.  Plus Banana Republic is offering free shipping today with code: JOY.  At Lord & Taylor we found this elegant cardigan with a scarf neckline on sale now for $155.38 available in Plus Sizes.  For Friends and Family extras use code: FRIENDS.

Women: Cashmere long-sleeve boatneck sweater - Purnel purple

Teach Mom how to accessorize with costume jewelry.  Once upon a time, this wasn’t accepted.  Now we know it’s all about the look you create, not how much you spend.  Necklaces from Kohl’s are chic and affordable, you can find the perfect style for your Mom’s wardrobe.  This classically sophisticated look is on sale for $14; or go with something more contemporary in this Tortoiseshell and Leather option for only $18.20.

Since we did just look at handbags yesterday, we are going to give that a rest.  Take a look at yesterday’s article, Workchic Gifts for your Favorite Boss, if they are on your Mom’s wish list.  Otherwise we are going look at wallets.  Sometimes we under estimate the importance of a nice wallet.  When you are out to dinner with friends and co-workers, do they see your handbag under the table or the wallet you pull out?  We found these at Endless, which happens to have free overnight shipping.  Nine West wallet with snakeskin pattern for $39 also comes in a red or plum version.  This vintage inspired Clutch, $28, looks like it might not keep you organizer, but there is a surprise.  Flip it open to reveal credit card slots, ID window, and more.

Nine West Upscale Checkbook Secretary   Rampage Ludlow Wallet

Gifts like these will show Mom how much you care; plus help her improve her work wardrobe.  Shop today before discounts end.  Use coupon code JOY at Banana Republic and FRIENDS at Lord & Taylor.  Overnight shipping is always free at Endless.com.  Happy Shopping!

Stylista-Episode 7

Well we are almost near the finale of this season’s Stylista.  Tonight was action packed. Zac Posen was the guest judge.  The fashionista’s assistant task was to hold a casting call in search of the correct model to wear a dress in an Elle fashion spread.  Megan came out the winner since she chose the best model to complement the dress not only with her body type but her skin tone and features as well.

The next assignment was to put together a fashion show in a short amount of time with their choice of  an emerging designer’s collection.  They then would take the photos of the models on the runway and put together a layout for the magazine.

Ashlie and DyShaun’s team while taking a risk in their layout won praises for their runway styling.  Megan and Johanna had a more cohesion layout but their runway looks lacked excitement.  Who had to pack their desk and go home?

Ashlie has a bright future ahead of her in whatever field she chooses!
