Reader Question: Wearing Hosiery to the Office

Now that summer is here the last thing most of us want to imagine is wearing tights or any type of hosiery on our legs. But for those of you that have a more corporate dress code or feel more comfortable wearing stockings or tights versus exposing your bare legs you may want a cooler option. One of our readers asked: What about fishnets?
Well we certainly don’t suggest wearing the open weave fishnets to work. It can appear too costumey. Keep those at home. However, you can get away with the tight or mini weave fishnet pattern in black or nude depending on your outfit. You can see from the below that there are some lightweight hosiery options to wear rather than going the nude pantyhose route.

The problem with the options you posted above is that if the office is conservative enough to require hose in the summer, it is also too conservative for a patterned type like those to be appropriate.
The hose you depicted, while very cute, are also a bit young. Do you have any suggestions for summer hose that can be worn with a suit in a conservative setting? I’d love to find some good options!

Wow, why do I love every single dress in that old 50s/60s ad. I like the hosiery you picked up. I hate sheer tan or nude hose.

This post was written in mind for our reader question that asked about wearing fishnets to the office. Some of our readers just like keeping their legs covered in the summer months even if their office has a casual dress code policy. Others work in a conservative environment where their legs must simply be covered but have more flexibility by being able to wear patterned hose. It is the term conservative that is left up for interpretation. We’ll write another post this week on summer hosiery that is geared towards a more corporate environment. Thanks for your comments!

Thanks for addressing this question. I was mainly curious about fishnets during the fall and on cooler spring days. It is often fun to spice up work slacks or a pencil skirt with fishnets. Thanks again for addressing this question!
