In Dec/January I read a book called “I have nothing to wear” about how to shop for what you need, and end up with a closet full of clothes that not only ‘go together’ but that you also love! I can’t remember the exact title & authors off-hand, but it had some great tools to think about how you shop how you put together looks.
Since I read it, I’ve gone shopping and ended up with some really great pieces that make several new outfits in my current wardrobe! What the book really helped me do was look at my current wardrobe and see what I needed – did I really need another red top, or could I really use a navy blue blazer? It also helped me realize that while I adore jeans, I probably don’t need 8-10 pairs of them, considering I only wear jeans to work on Fridays, and then on the weekends. It helped me to focus in on what I needed, and also on what looks good on me! So what if skinny pants are in style – they don’t flatter me, and I should waste my time and money on clothes that don’t flatter me just because they’re trendy!
I definitely recommend taking stock of your closet – I literally wrote down everything I wear on a regular basis, and even noted things that I love but never wear because I don’t have the right shoes or pants to wear with them. Then write down what you need and go shopping armed with a list of things you need. When I went shopping I kept getting distracted by cute items, and I had to keep re-focusing on what I was there to find!
Now I have what feels like an endless supply of options – and all I bought on my trip were three pairs of pants, one top, and a belt!
