Over the last few months we have seen a return to pencil skirts as a favorite silhouette. (we may be pretending mini skirts don’t exist) Including Eva Longoria at InStyle and CFDA “Dinner with a Designer” event.

But more specifically we are excited about the pencil skirts showing up in bright colors like this look inspired by Kyra Sedgwick on The Closer.

So where can you buy this latest trend? Here are a few of our favorite designs and shops.

This pencil skirt from Yuppie by Chyanne is vibrant for summer and we love it being paired with a simple oxford shirt. Shop Yuppie by Chyanne for this style.

At Talbots we found this printed pencil skirt and two color embroidered style. Pair either one with a simple blouse and make the skirt really stand out.

At J.Crew we found a long list of pencil skirts we loved! Here are our top 3 choices. Stretch double-serge pencil skirt in Papaya is very flattering with pleating and shaped seams. Whether it’s a casual or more professional day in the office, this floral skirt is perfect. Dress it down with a simple tee or up with blazer to make it appropriate for your office environment. Turkish Delight pencil skirt is currently on sale for $79.99 and in a fetching metallic jacquard it reminds us of one of our favorite confections.
There is no reason your work wardrobe can’t be bold. These pencil skirts are a great example!

We found this nautical inspired jacket at Ann Taylor. It’s in a classic cotton/silk twill. Double-breasted front has two faux-button details. The three quarter sleeves allow you to show off your favorite bangles.

Pairing the look with dark trousers, allows the jacket to really stand out. Signature Triacetate Trousers are versatile, they sit just below the natural waist and are easy through the hip and thigh to flatter your curves.

Layer your favorite summer blouse under this chic professional suit. Finish the look by layering on multi-colored pearl bracelets, like these Soiree bracelets from Stella & Dot.

What else would you add to this chic business look?

We often turn to TheLaundress.com for special care of our favorite garments. Today we want to share some of their top tips and tricks with you.
DRESS SHIRTS
- The easiest way to ruin shirts is to dry clean. Hand wash as much as possible or machine wash using a mesh bag for protection. This will help prevent broken or missing buttons and protect the fabric.
- Industrial pressing at the cleaners will loosen, break and lose buttons. This also scorches and weakens the fabric and will inevitably lead to fraying and tearing (especially at the seams).
- Pre-treat underarms, collar and cuffs with The Laundress Stain Solution each time you wash even if you don’t see a stain. Stains can build up and appear over time from food, body products (deodorant), perspiration & body oils, etc

- Shirts should be damp when ironed. Add a capful of The Laundress Ironing Water to your iron and use our natural plant-based Stiffen Up spray starch. Always press from the tip (points) of the collar or cuff inwards, not the reverse which will cause wrinkling.

- Avoid the dryer if possible, hang dry to extend the life of your garment and is best for ironing. If traveling or on-the-go, remove wrinkles with Crease Release our wrinkle release spray and freshen stuffed clothes in suitcases with our Fabric Fresh spray.
DARK WASH DENIM
- For best results with dark denim launder with The Laundress Denim Wash in cold water, turn item inside out, to preserve the dark color.

- When it’s time to wash your new dark denim make sure it’s washed alone so no dye transfer occurs on other items.
- Don’t like stiff denim? Our Laundress Denim Wash is formulated with our Fabric Conditioner to soften denim while preserving the color with our Darks Detergent.
- Dark denim is best maintained by not using the dryer cycle. This is where most fading occurs. Air drying is recommended.
- In between washing and wearing – spray with your favorite scent of The Laundress Fabric Fresh an anti-bacterial and odor removal spray.

- Before altering and hemming – wash and dry in a high temperature to maximize the shrinkage…especially for pant legs.
For more tips from The Laundress check out their Can I Be Washed? fabric chart or learn how to best care for delicates.
We hope you found these tips useful. We’d love to hear your top tips and tricks for keeping your clothes Workchic.

I don’t know about you but I can’t even fathom wearing a long sleeve suit jacket in the NYC summer heat. I love this fitted Bow Sleeve Jacket from the Limited-$98. The short sleeves are finished with a subtle bow detail. The jacket is fully lined so it gives it that more business feel. I would pair it with the High Waist Seamed Pencil Skirt which is in a Black/White Microcheck fabric. It is a steal for $59.50. I think the Ruffle Sleeveless Shirt would round out this business look. For $39.50 it is extremely versatile and will go with other items in your work wardrobe.

This question seems to come up about this time every year. Yes! You can wear white pants to the office. It’s all about how you style the look. Last year we showed you 3 casual and business casual outfits with white pants perfect for the office. This year we searched Polyvore for looks we would deem office appropriate.

White pants for spring/1 by Jelena M S featuring Burberry Prorsum pants
For a business casual office, layer a light weight cardigan over a simple tank. Jelena M S finished the look with a light blue satchel and pearls.

Morning: At coffee table by Seelah featuring Chloé tote bags
Going from the office to dinner and drinks with friends? Pairing a satin blouse with a blazer and peep toe pumps makes the look professional during the day and easy to transition for a night out on the town.

159:shape by butterQ featuring Steven Alan tops
For a casual day in the office we referred to butterQ’s set with a cotton rolled sleeve blouse over white pants. Gingham clutch is adorable for summer.

marine II by Nadine B Martin . featuring Planet tops
Our final look has the most classic business casual feel. Keep your white pants Workchic with a blue striped shirt and navy cardigan.
Our friends on Polyvore are very creative! These looks will definitely be inspiring our summer work wardrobes. We would love to hear how you style your white pants for the office. Leave us a comment here or share your sets with us on Polyvore.
These two styles of white pants are perfect for the office.
