There are quite a few renowned strong women leaders throughout history. A strong female leader to me is one who is not afraid to pave her own path. She would rather walk alone to pursue her dream than follow the crowd just to fit in. Whenever someone asks me to name a strong, inspirational woman I usually think of this name ~ Amelia Earhart. She is the holy grail of strong women leaders.
Amelia Earhart is the most well known female aviator in history and was a pioneer. But she was much more than a skilled pilot when you take a deeper look at her life. Amelia marked her legacy in many ways for us to admire and learn from. Let me tell you, I absolutely LOVE her! Her characteristics, in a nutshell, basically make Amelia a true iconic figure among many women that have come before and since.
She lived her passion.
Following your dream brings an immense sense of joy and freedom. Passion also helps you overcome some of the most difficult challenges and mistakes along the way. Amelia lived a life that she loved. She didn’t let anything stop her desire to fly. To embark on a passionate journey to transform one’s self is a life well lived.
She was courageous.
One of my favorite mottos is “Stay true to yourself and do something courageous.” Also in her own words “The most effective way to do it is to do it.” Not only did she accomplish her goals of flying but she went on to leave her mark in aviation by breaking records. She is undoubtedly the most celebrated woman in aviation history by showing the world to follow their hearts, dream big, and be courageous through action.
She motivated others.
A true leader’s ambition is not only in her interest but she is also invested in others. As a career counselor Amelia encouraged young women to think beyond traditional jobs. She encouraged them to pursue and excel in science, aviation, or engineering fields that were dominated by males. And thus for them to become independent, passionate and forward-thinking people.
Personally, having a role model to follow is one of the best ways for me to grow, improve and mostly importantly to see the big picture for success. Not surprisingly, Amelia was also inspired by previously successful women to help get her goals accomplished.
How about you? Do you have a specific woman (or women) you look up to? Who is your strong woman? Perhaps someone who is close to you like your mother or a colleague?
