Every designer puts their heart and soul into each of their pieces, especially the looks that celebrities wear to red carpet events. However, there was one collaborative piece at the 2022 Met Gala that stood out. Dolce & Gabbana and Miss Sohee put their heads together to create a unique gown that stole the show. Keep reading to know more about the inspirational gown.
Front and Center
The second that Taylor Hill stepped onto the red carpet at the Met Gala, spectators saw what looked like a royal blue strapless mini dress underneath, with embroidered flowers at the neckline. The top layer featured large flowers just below the bust and sleeves that began halfway down Hill’s arm and ended just above the knuckles of her hands. The rest of the fabric on the top layer draped around Hill’s figure and had a slit that provided a view of Hill’s blue thigh-high heeled boots with white laces. The boots were embroidered with the same pink and white flowers that were on the neckline.
To the Side
As Hill passes people by and heads toward the stairs, the onlookers get a more comprehensive silhouette, one that flatters the actress and makes it almost look like she is gliding. It also gives the audience a glimpse of the train, which is full of similar flowers found on Hill’s neckline and boots. However, the side view does not give those flowers justice.
From the Back
The back of the gown is where Miss Sohee and Dolce & Gabbana make the real magic. As Hill walked down the carpet and up the stairs, viewers were treated to an expanse of blue fabric as the train trailed behind her. The train is a common theme in red carpet dresses, but none of them are or have been quite like this one. Hill’s train was positively decked out in embroidered flowers up the center of the train as well as other designs that shimmered and sparkled in the foreground. The scene paints a picture of flowers that someone has plucked being tossed into a river at twilight. With everything being so detailed, unless you were to take a picture or pause the screen, you would not have been able to get a good look at that gown while Hill was on the red carpet. This collaboration brought out the best of Miss Sohee and Dolce & Gabbana, no question.
Many people will butt heads on a collaborative project, and the end result may be less than stellar. However, this gown had none of those problems. It featured big flowers without being tacky. It was both strapless and had sleeves without the styles clashing. Though embroidery is usually traded in for sparkles and sequins, this dress combined both in a tasteful way. All in all, this gown was not just a dress, but a statement and a work of art. Both designers truly outdid themselves with this one, and hopefully, audiences will see more looks like this on future red carpets.
