Stylista- Season Finale

Tonight was the season finale of our guilty pleasure show-Stylista.  The first challenge was to interview Roberta Myers-the editor-in-chief of Elle Magazine.  That meant goodbye to Megan!

That left Johanna and DyShaun as the last two standing.  Their final challenge for the coveted title as Junior Editor was to design a cover page with Eve.  They also received some help with some of the former contestants.  Megan was selected to come back and help Johanna.  But she suddenly had a meltdown and wanted to go home.  Johanna persuaded her to stay and Megan said she would stay since she was a great friend.   I have also thought that DyShaun had a great sense of fashion but his immaturity stood in the way.  Johanna is such a perfectionist that it sometimes worked against her.    Who ultimately prevailed and won the competition?

Congrats Johanna on a job well done!  You were the right fit!  Word of advice-you don’t need a friend like Megan!

Stylista-Episode 7

Well we are almost near the finale of this season’s Stylista.  Tonight was action packed. Zac Posen was the guest judge.  The fashionista’s assistant task was to hold a casting call in search of the correct model to wear a dress in an Elle fashion spread.  Megan came out the winner since she chose the best model to complement the dress not only with her body type but her skin tone and features as well.

The next assignment was to put together a fashion show in a short amount of time with their choice of  an emerging designer’s collection.  They then would take the photos of the models on the runway and put together a layout for the magazine.

Ashlie and DyShaun’s team while taking a risk in their layout won praises for their runway styling.  Megan and Johanna had a more cohesion layout but their runway looks lacked excitement.  Who had to pack their desk and go home?

Ashlie has a bright future ahead of her in whatever field she chooses!

Stylista-Episode 6

Wow that was a drama filled hour wasn’t it?  If you missed it the fashionistas were first given the assistant task of preparing a hotel room for model Maggie Rizer (and her two dogs).  They were given a list of her demands before her arrival at the hotel.  The interns ran around snatching as many items on the list and prepared the hotel room to her liking.  Anne and Maggie then critiqued each room.  I don’t know if Maggie was told to act like a superdiva-if she was then kudos to her for her fine acting skills! I believed it.  If not then she really has to get over herself.

The editorial task was to complete a multi photo layout utilizing the supplies in the Elle fashion closet.  I thought the team of Katie and Ashlie did a great job.  The layout had more interest than the second team’s work.  They took more of a risk but the second team of DyShaun, Johanna, and Megan “less is more” approach ulitmately prevailed.

That left the team of Ashlie and Katie in the hot seat for elimination.  Katie speaks up for herself and blasts the other team.  Will that save her spot for another week?  The loser this week was:

Personally I think she should stick with law school.   She is a very good prosecutor!

Stylista- Episode 5

Ok I missed last week’s episode but I got totally up to speed tonight.  Tonight’s episode was titled -”It’s all about who you know.”  Isn’t that the truth?    The mini assignment for the fashionistas was to search for the perfect gift for Anne to give to Amy Sacco-owner of such exclusive restaurants in New York such as Bungalow 8.   Johanna and Megan win the task with their gift idea of presenting a  cashmere throw.  I personally felt DyShaun and Kate came up with a more creative idea with the vintage Chanel brooch. However I do agree jewelry is a more personal gift and maybe not the best gift unless you really know someone’s taste.

Then for their editorial challenge, the fashionistas were to attend a party with Joe and Anne and help them identify the guests.  They needed to memorize a dossier full of 85 names and a few facts about that person. Can anyone say Devil Wears Prada?  Surprisingly Megan’s team won the challenge.  They worked extremely well together.  The drama was on Johanna’s team and of course the force behind the drama was Kate.  Why is she still on this show by the way?

But the real issue that I know myself and others that have worked in the fashion industry experienced is what Danielle was going through in this week’s episode.  The team was told to utilize Elle’s sample closet for their party outfits. Danielle being a larger size was only able to pick selected items.  Obviously she is not a size 2.  Of course she was upset about it.  Who wouldn’t be?  What she did show was courage to go into the closet and grab a few items.  It conveys a message that everyone deserves a chance in this world no matter what size label is in their pants or shirt.  It doesn’t mean you are less talented than the person who is a size 2 standing next to you!

I am kind of disappointed with Anne Slowey’s decision below.  Do you think this person should have been voted off?

Best of luck to you Danielle!

Stylista- Episode 3

I don’t know about you but this week’s episode of Stylista really struck a nerve. I felt actually annoyed with some of the cast. Or maybe I’m just crabby from lack of sleep from watching the presidential election last night? Nevertheless this week’s episode was packed with drama. This week’s episode starts with Anne telling the aspiring editors that they must throw her niece a birthday party. Then they are asked to select a mother-daughter team that attends that party to inspire their trend page.

Of course there is drama when Kate is around. She had good ideas but just complains to no end. She forgets her money. She doesn’t speak up. She throws inappropriate tantrums. She is also dressed so inappropriately for the office. I would let her go just on that factor alone. The team with William, Danielle, and Devin ultimately prevailed and deserved to win. They are the least drama free of the bunch and work diligently to get the job done. They are able to let their talent shine through without tears and cattiness.

So the two losers this week were Kate and Cologne. Who was told to pack their belongings-crybaby Kate who would get eaten alive in the real fashion world or Cologne- the nice girl from Berkeley whose only crime is maybe wearing too much mascara? See below…

I was really surprised but I guess drama prevails one more week! Did you agree with the judges’ decision?

Stylista Episode 2

Wow what an action packed episode of Stylista this week! Want to know who just isn’t a fit for Elle magazine? Here’s a quick summary of tonight’s episode first- The fashion mavens were given a project to select items from the coveted Elle fashion closet that fit certain stylista requirements: pintuck, woven, knit, empire waist, dart, set in sleeve and funnel collar. They then were to style these items on a mannequin. Most of the mavens struggled with the fashion terminology and the mannequin and didn’t even get close to styling an outfit. Megan, the team villain, was the ultimate winner.

Their second project was to go out to find a hidden gem in Chinatown. Personally I wasn’t impressed with any of their results but I ultimately agreed with the judges decision. Team Cologne had the best layout. Of course drama occured-911 had to be called. Someone goes to the hospital. I don’t want to spoil it in case you have this episode on Tivo. For all of you that did watch tonight..do you agree with the judges decision who to send home?

New Reality show- Stylista

Did anyone watch the new reality show “Stylista” on the CW channel. Listen it is no Project Runway but I just had to watch it. In case you have it in on Tivo here is a quick summary. Think Devil Meets Prada on a reality show. Eleven fashion mavens compete to win the coveted junior editorial job at Elle Magazine. In the meantime they experience the life of a fashion editorial assistant to Elle’s fashion news director, Anne Slowey.

Their first task of the day was to design a breakfast tray for Anne Slowey. Ok that was ridiculous. Then they split into teams and hit the local H&M to gather new outfits for a runway show. The team then had to prepare an editorial spread showcasing each of the team member’s outfits. Let’s face it..it’s fashion. You can push the envelope. However I liked how Anne and Joe Zee pointed out some the outfits-whether it be shoes, hats, gloves were not office appropriate! I must say it always pay off to be workchic! I don’t know about you but I personally think they made the wrong decision in letting the the first stylista, Arnaldo go. He played it safe in his outfits and still looked professional. There were others that looked far worse than he did. I guess they need the drama though after all it is a reality show!

What did you think of the show?
